St Mary the Blessed Virgin Parish Magazine April 2026
life of our Parish.
Welcome to this the April edition of St. Mary's magazine, a month that will see a great change in the CORONA
On 26th April the Reverend Debbie will conduct her last services as our highly esteemed Vicar, in what I imagine could be quite a sad day for Debbie and also Edward. I would like to express here my thanks for all Debbie has done for the Parish, through her thoughtfulness for others, her teachings of the scriptures and unending support for this magazine. My thanks also go out to Edward for all the contributions he submitted for the magazine, especially the series on the Archbishops of Canterbury with connections to St. Mary's.
But as they say life goes on and so what does this issue contain. I can think of no better start than the page opposite, to remember that God smiles down on you in everything you do.
Easter will have been celebrated when you receive this issue but the Easter jokes on page 14 will be just as good for Easter 2027. Of course before Easter there is Good Friday, This years activities are reported on in this issue. I think we can safely say this event is a Tradition and perhaps is should be included along with Good Friday traditions found on pages 22 and 23.
The Charity for this month is the Woodland Trust and on that theme the tree of the month is the Larch, a conifer that sheds its greenery in Autumn. Staying with the horticultural aspect there is a Gardeners Hymn (Anon) to be found on page 17.
The roads of the Parish (L-R) with explanations of their naming can be found in this issue as can a continuation of the Manors of Addington, especially the Leigh family. I have often wondered what the likes of the Leigh's and other older inhabitants of Addington would make of the parish in 2026.
To be or not to be, True or False. April is the month celebrating the life and death of Shakespeare and a quiz relating to the Bard can be found on page 33. Can you remember life before computers, you can jog your memory by looking at page 30 and an illustration of a non electrical powered aid.
It is not as grim as it sounds but "Swedish Death Cleaning" or "Dostadning" is a good way forward to clearing out unwanted items around the house rather than leaving the task to others as and when.
And so in finishing this page as I started it - THANK YOU to Debbie and Edward and God speed you into your well deserved and no doubt happy Retirement. We will miss you!!!
