The Good Friday Project
Every year St. Mary's has a Good Friday project for children. We have been inviting children to take part in the activities and worship probably for around 50 years.
This year Lindsay welcomed 25 children. We aim to teach them about what happened in Holy Week.
First the children could choose to draw round their hands and cut them out to make palms for the Hosanna banner, or paint stones for the Easter garden and scratch pictures and decorate eggs. We then came together to make flat breads, a little sticky but good fun. At break time refreshments were provided including hot cross buns and fruit juice. The children could then decide to make a flower arrangement either for church or take home and to make a lacing cross or fish.
At noon we all came together for a short service and talk when Lindsay gave us all a pipe cleaner and she recalled events in Jesus's life during that last week. We were encouraged to make a heart to show God's love for us, a flower to show we can give love to others, a tear to show that love sometimes makes us sad and a cross to show that Jesus loved us so much that he died for us on Good Friday. Edward accompanied our hymns.
Lunch followed with very tasty fish finger sandwiches which Liz Hook and family cooked for us all. The children were all given a party bag after lunch with an Easter card and a little Easter book and an egg. Thank you to Lindsay and her 6 helpers and also the cooks.
It is lovely to see all the families coming together and getting to know each other at the Good Friday project and each month at Messy Church.
The pictures on the page 29 show some of the activities enjoyed by the young people.
