SISC students excel in SGEN Music and Monologues
By: Yoeiza Garcia A fter two years of being online, the annual SGEN Performing Arts Competition was held onsite last March 23 at the Stonyhurst Southville International School - Malarayat Campus in Lipa City, Batangas. The interschool competition occurred with the theme and performances of “Music and Monologues.”
SISC’s rising popstar Aisleen Villamiel from 11-Efficiency bagged the first-ever podium award for the school with her runner-up award for the musical category for signing with the song “Roxie” from the musical Chicago.
Ryza Louise Boco from 10-Commitment, who accompanied Aisleen through her monologue, also made it to the podium as she won the second runner-up award.
Other representatives of SISC included
Lovable
Tomaquin from 12- Diplomacy who performed her rendition of the song "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten for the pop category, bagging a participation award.
Her partner, Paula Garcia from 12-Service, earned the same award after providing an introductory oration prior to the song.
Music teacher Sir Matthew Yango and English teacher
Mayi
Seva trained
SISC's delegation in the art of soliloquy and vocal performance respectively.
The competition consisted of two performances: interpreting monologues and solo singing. The goal of this event was to promote these 2 disciplines together to create meaning and tell a story. Thus, a monologue introducing a character or theme preluded a song that directly delved into it.
Two minutes were allotted for the monologue and must be connected to their song of choice. There are three winners for each contest per category.
The SGEN Performing Arts Competition is an annual singing, dance, and acting contest participated by SISC, Stonyhurst Southville Malarayat
