Pros and Cons between VOLT and F2F Classes
In the wake of the pandemic, schools and students have embraced a new way of learning - a dynamic blend of virtual and in-person classes that has become the "new normal." Southville had actually been using Virtual Online Learning and Teaching (VOLT) even before the pandemic began; however, this has been more heightened during and after the pandemic, where students are given opportunities to explore which is more suitable for their needs. For this, I would like to share my experience having attended the VOLT and face-to-face (F2F) classes.
To begin with, I would like to discuss VOLT instruction. It has become a very familiar class for us already.
There are many advantages to VOLT classes; firstly, you are a little bit free because you will stay at home while you have a class: you can take a shower, lie on the bed, and play games during recess and lunch time.
Then, you can manage your time easily. You can wake up late in the morning and go directly to bed after your class is done. This is a personal matter of mine, but traveling to and from school is time-consuming. You don't have to take a shower every morning and put on your school uniform neatly. All you have to prepare is the mindset to concentrate on class and be at your best in class every day.
Lastly, you can take class comfortably. Classes at school require meeting and interacting with teachers in person, with classmates as well, but if you don't feel comfortable talking to them, you can start step by step at home. Then, after assignments are done, most of the teachers usually give us break time. You will have a more relaxing time.
VOLT has very few disadvantages. The disadvantage that I encountered is that students can be easily distracted with online applications such as YouTube, Instagram, and games. Actually, teachers are not right next to me, so I sometimes get tempted; however, with proper study and a growth mindset, these temptations can be avoided.
This time, I would like to discuss my thoughts about F2F learning. Initially, during F2F classes, you can easily communicate and ask questions to your teachers and classmates whenever something is confusing. You can talk very directly with the teacher and ask questions about things you don't know in great detail.
