  • A LETTER FROM OUR PRINCIPALOur amazing student journalists are covering the pandemic from the perspective of young people whose lives have been completely upended. Now more than ever, they need their stories to be told. The Mover is a way for every Monarch to connect and feel better amid all uncertainties as everyone is kind of in the same boat. It brings the school community together while we are isolated everywhere. I am very proud of the young writers and artists of this year’s The Mover who are doing the best they can in this moment in time. The future will thank you for the work you are doing as the “historians of record” of one of the biggest stories of our lives. You are covering a generation’s perspective that is unique and not necessarily talked about, but really matters.
  • A LETTER FROM OUR TECHNICAL ADVISORWho's to say that what our kids write now won't go down in history someday? I'd like to think that what the Movers do is so much more than just churning up article after article. Each time they write, they take a chance that someone will listen to them during these uncertain times and see how they are actually manifesting a sense of hope and progression despite the challenges that this season presents.
  • A LETTER FROM OUR EDITOR IN CHIEFTraditionally, a 30th Anniversary called for pearls. In modern times, it’s become diamonds. Either way, both are beautiful in their own right. Last year, it was said that Southville’s 30th Anniversary was meant to have more fanfare, and details were already being sketched out, unrefined. It was Southville’s diamond anniversary. From a small and humble preschool, it had grown into a complex of different campuses throughout the Philippines and abroad. Then the COVID-19 pandemic—as it did to a lot of things—put a stop to the celebration. Students and teachers were forced to P H O T O B Y M A R T I N R . S M I T H celebrate Southville’s 30th Anniversary online and alone, separated from the community the school was so proud of cultivating.

  • LITERARY WORKSThe Present Yes, quarantine has taken away my senior year. A year that was meant to be memorable, and not in the sense that I’d be stuck inside my humble abode every single hour of the day. But staying stuck inside has made me uncover pasts that linger within me as a student. Of all the things I’ve discovered, I’ve come to realize that this time is precious. The more time that I can spend revisiting myself and my life, the more time to say goodbye to the things that pull at my heart. Soon enough, all these sentimental moments will just become a part of my memory, tucked beneath every single experience that’s bound to happen. But one thing’s for sure: these sentimental figures will always carry me back to the past with the magic of nostalgia.

  • WAR AT HOMEB y : S a m a n t h a M a r i e R . T i m b o l I l l u s t r a t e d b y T h e r e s e J o v e l l a n a In 2020, the beginning of the new decade set foot, as well as the beginning of a new movement in life. We had to stay indoors and distance ourselves from one another physically and to regularly sanitize our surroundings. We had to learn how to use masks and face shields when we went out. Getting from where we used to be to a new and improved place at the end of the line isn’t easy as it seems. No one ever said that working towards a better normal would be easy. Given the newly-experienced pandemic, we can heartbreakingly infer that life’s old motions won’t ever be the same.
  • Page 21matter to me if it is having a snack with your friends at a convenience store at five in the morning or watering your plants in the garden to feel the sun. The pandemic showed us that plans or schedules can easily be replaced and demolished. Nothing is permanent. Remember that the “new normal” isn’t something to despise, it’s an event to help us live through and survive the virus with safety. I know it’s an obstacle basically looking at you right in the face, even defining itself as a mission for you to accomplish, but do not lose sense and urgency to what’s important.
  • HOMEWORK: 4 TIPS ON PROTECTING YOUR SANITY FOR ONLINE CLASSESB y : I o C a r p i s o I l l u s t r a t e d B y : T h e r e s e J o v e l l a n a Out of all the things that I hear the most from students about online classes, there is one word that is groaned the loudest: stress As a student who also tends to feel drained from a series of online classes, I realized eventually that I was working harder and not smarter. The difference between them is that the former is unhealthy as it results in mental and physical exhaustion.
  • 3.) R and R and RepeatJust because you wrote down your goals doesn’t mean you have to dedicate all your time into work! Online setups easily make you feel like you have to be in the game 24/7, but that’s not the case. Always take regular breaks from work, and remember to keep the rest of the day for your personal use without any cramming for school. The University of Arizona encourages online students to regularly socialize with friends, to have a fun hobby or activity on the side, and to have a decent, regular sleep schedule. Exercise routines are excellent time-killers as they dial up endorphins and buzz up y ur mood. It also doubles as a way too keep yourself fit during quarantine. Remember: You aren’t a machine, you’re a person! If ever you need it, take your sick days or mental health days when you feel immensely unwell or agitated. You can’t expect yourself to perform well when you don’t feel well!

With a silk-like animation style, corny comedic one-liners, and the whole theme of friendship makes this movie a great kid’s movie. Take note of that. Kids movie. While making this review, I had to view the movie as if I was seven years old again, watching Spongebob episodes on my TV. With that nostalgic mindset, I had an amazing underwater adventure with Spongebob and our old friends from Bikini Bottom. sourced from paramount

Therefore, if by some stroke of luck I do receive a chance to study in the U.S, I will take to heart the conversation I overheard of my dad as he was driving and speaking to my mom. With that newfound education which will enhance my writing skills I will start my own program that generates a love for writing among the next generation. I was able to discover my life's goal within a minute of listening (which my parents have probably long since forgotten) and it was anchored in the idea of what genuine kindness can do. I have no intention of straying and if my father can find success by helping others while pursuing his passion, then so can I. Rest assured when the time comes and the opportunities enable me to, I'll bring the keys to the next child who feels every door to a decent future is locked tight.

Lucky enough, a lot of students participated in this event and we are very happy with the outcome,” Rayschele mentions.

  • SISC DEBATE SHOWCASE: AN INTERVIEW WITH DAVID RAMOSB y : P a t r i c i a M e r c a d o David shared some stories on how he was introduced to debating, thoughts on the [contest], and shared his advice for debaters. On October 12, 2020, the SISC Debate Club, in collaboration with the SISC Model United Nations Club and the Kindness Project, hosted a mock-debate showcase to kick off the start of SISC’s International Week. The Mover team had the chance to interview Co-Founder David Ramos to talk about the interesting event.
  • Page 37During International Week, we advocated for learning the cultures and thoughts of other people. So, we thought that the best way to do that was to have a debate showcase to show how these two sides can come to a conclusion and find a middle ground on a topic. Why did you start the Debate Club?
  • Page 38So, the biggest takeaways I could give to urge people to join Debate Club is the improvement of public speaking, improvement in confidence, and lastly wider scope on the world and the topics that it gives. What can you say to those who want to try out debating, but are too afraid to start?
  • DELEGATES ASSEMBLE: SISC HOLDS FIRST-EVER SGEN MUN PRE-CONFERENCEB y : M a t t h e w C a b i l e s & N a t h a n D i c h u p a Planned by SGEN’s SLGE teachers and executed by the SISC MUN Secretariat, this event marks a milestone in Southville’s MUN history. For 17 years, the Model United Nations (MUN) Club has stood out among Southville’s extracurricular activities. Over the course of this year, the MUN Club has seen an increase of members—known as delegates—with this year’s online schooling. The community has widened despite the ongoing quarantine, with delegates longing for the pre-pandemic experience of research and speech. Conferences have to push through regardless of the virtual setup, and that setting—where occasions with other private schools have become near impossible— provided an opportunity for an event that instead
