WE TEST DRIVE THE NEW AUDI Q5 E-HYBRID FROM AUDI CENTRE GOLD COAST
For drivers who love the idea of electric motoring but aren’t quite ready to give up the reassurance of a petrol engine, the new Audi Q5 e-hybrid may just be the perfect compromise.
We recently headed to Audi Centre Gold Coast at 62 High Street, Southport, to get behind the wheel of Audi’s latest plugin hybrid SUV, and it didn’t take long to understand the appeal.
The Q5 has long been one of Audi’s most popular SUVs, combining everyday practicality with the understated luxury the German marque does so well. Now, with the introduction of the new e-hybrid, it has become even more versatile. From the outside, it is unmistakably Audi.
The new-generation Q5 has a sharper, more athletic appearance, with beautifully balanced proportions, S line styling, 20 and 21-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights and a panoramic sunroof all adding to its premium presence. For an even more dynamic look, the Sportback variant features a coupé-inspired, sloping roofline that creates a distinctive silhouette, trading a little practicality for stronger presences.
Inside, things become even more impressive.
The cabin feels beautifully finished and wonderfully sophisticated, with an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit sitting alongside a generous 14.5-inch central touchscreen. Everything is clean, modern and intuitive, while the seating and overall refinement make it incredibly easy to imagine spending plenty of time behind the wheel.
Then comes the real surprise, the performance.
The Q5 e-hybrid combines a turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a substantial 270kW of power and 500Nm of torque. Put your foot down and it can accelerate from 0–100km/h in just 5.1 seconds, which is seriously impressive for a luxurious family SUV. Yet around town, it is the opposite side of its personality that really shines.
