Reading The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak was a tru- ly profound and unexpected experience for me. At first, it seemed like just another novel, but it quickly became captivat- ing, and I couldn't put the book down. The reading experience felt meditative because of how peaceful and deeply reflective the writing was. The emotions, conversations, and struggles felt incredibly real, which made it more powerful and unforgetta- ble.
The story follows Ella Ru- binstein, a woman who feels trapped and disconnected from her life, while also exploring the extraordinary bond between Rumi and Shams of Tabriz. I especially liked how relatable Ella's character was-her strug- gles, imperfections, and confu- sion felt human and authentic.
In particular, the relationship between Shams and Rumi was one of the most beautiful as- pects of the novel. Shams's carefree nature felt like a breath of fresh air, and every time he spoke, I felt inspired to see life differently, perhaps even through his perspective and to incorporate his virtues into my own life. His "Forty Rules of Love" were truly mind-blowing, filled with wisdom that left a lasting impact on me.
For me, the entire novel is cen- tred around HKL. Everything Shams did for others came from a place of unconditional love, kindness, and spiritual under- standing. Even when his actions seemed difficult or uncomfort- able, they always encouraged people to become more honest with themselves and closer to God. Shams guided people to- wards God while reminding them that every person carries

Book Recommended by Jimmy Kaur BULANDPURI SAHIB, PUNJABI, INDIA a beautiful heart within and that the divine lives in each of us.
This is shown through the char- acter Desert Rose, who spoke to me the most because I saw many of my own fears reflected in her. She struggles with shame, judg- ment, and the feeling of seeing herself through the eyes of oth- ers rather than through her own worth. I related deeply to the way she carried the weight of what society thought of her and how easily she came to believe those opinions. Her character made me reflect on how often people define themselves based on what others say, think, or as- sume about them.
It was powerful to see how Shams of Tabriz helped Desert Rose recognize her true self beneath all the labels and pain. He saw her soul and essence rather than her external identity and past. Through his guidance, she slowly began to see herself with dignity and compassion rather than shame. This showed how walking the path of love toward the Divine can liberate a person from the prison of the world's opinions and expectations.
Walking toward the Divine transforms us beyond all world- ly labels and forces us to con- front who we really are at our core. Without the Divine, we become bundles of fear, con- stantly searching for valida- tion from people and society. But through love, surrender, and spiritual awakening, Desert Rose begins to understand that her worth does not come from the world's judgment, but from the divine light within her.

Overall, The Forty Rules of Love left a lasting impression on me and genuinely shifted my perspective on life. It is not sim- ply a novel about love between people, but a story about inner transformation, spirituality, and discovering deeper meaning in life. It is one of those rare books that stays with you long after you finish reading it, and I have a feeling that throughout the introduces a rule that has stayed life, I will continue to reflect on hardships and uncertainties of To overcome the shame she carries within herself, the book with me:
