  • Page 3Twelve years ago, after attending a morning meditation, I drove to my University and spent two hours reading prayers in my car before my class would start. It was a dark and cold winter morning. I clearly recall leaving my car, and turning back and realizing that I had left the headlights on for the entire two hours while I was sitting in the parking lot. I said an "uh oh", went back to the car, turned off the lights, and decided that if the car doesn't start after class, it will be a problem I'll have to deal with later. After my classes were over, I walked back to my car. I put the key in the ignition and my hunch was correct. It didn't start. I will admit that as a nov- ice driver, I did not know many basics about driver prepared- ness-including keeping jumper cables in the car.

An hour later I was nearly about to exit the stadium in "defeat" with my wagon of *"What's your product?" "My book"* when Ellen ran into me after returning back to the stadium. I was originally told by anoth- er person it wasn't possible for me to be a vendor. It was Ellen and a volunteer named Frances who helped secure a site for me after I finally did the rest of the necessary registration steps. "I knew we met for a reason," she said. And then it was an ad- ditional volunteer and RCMP officers who offered to help me raise my tent. (I came to the fes- tival all by myself.) It was also a volunteer named Kim who was so kind to have told me earlier that although I *couldn't* ven- dor that year, I should give my book to Alliance Philippines who teaches Tagalog to kids. It was Corrina's kindness that had her offer to put my book into their rotation for use for their classes.

The Power of Now

By Eckhart Tolle

Book Recommended by Hannah Kaur CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA to again and again in each mowith my inner self. At times, it challenged me because it made me aware of how often the mind takes over. Yet, with every chapter, I felt a sense of calm- ness and clarity. I often found myself pausing after passages just to reflect, which made the experience grounding and more affirming.

What struck me most was that the present moment is all we truly have. It reminded me personally that humility comes from releasing the ego's need for control, kindness shows up more naturally when I am fully present with others, and love feels more genuine when I am not caught in my thoughts.

In a world filled with distrac- tions, worries about the future, and reflections on the past, The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle offers a simple yet profound in- vitation: come back to the pres- ent moment.

ment.

For anyone seeking greater clar- ity, mindfulness, and spiritual growth, The Power of Now is a timeless read and a meaningful companion on the journey of living Humility, Kindness, and Love every day.

One of my biggest takeaways from The Power of Now was the realization that so much of The teachings of The Power of Now align deeply with Hu- mility, Kindness, and Love. In practice, humility arises when the ego quiets, kindness deep- ens when we are truly present with others, and love becomes a natural expression of awareness and connection.

It strengthened something I was our suffering comes from living already beginning to under- everywhere except the present moment. We spend so much time replaying the past or wor- rying about the future that we miss the gift of what is right in front of us. The book remind- ed me that peace already exists within us when we become ful- ly present.

stand through meditation: that presence is a practice. It shifted my perspective from constantly asking, "What's next?" to ap- preciating, "What is here now?" I became more intentional about creating moments of stillness throughout my day, whether through meditation, mindful walks, or simply taking a con- scious breath before responding to situations.
