St Mary the Blessed Virgin Parish Magazine 2026
Second hand as first choice. Buying secondhand goods is one of the quickest and cheapest ways to start shopping sustainably. There are many websites and apps to make it easy to find what you're looking for and, of course, you can support your local Charity shop.
Turn down your thermostat. Warmer weather during the day can sometimes bring chilly evenings. Households with a gas boiler can cut their emissions and fuel bill by tweaking the thermostat. The Climate Change Committee recommends thermostats are set at 19 degrees or below.
Propagate your plants. Instead of buying a new plant, use cuttings from friends and family. This will cut out all the energy use associated with growing and transporting nursey plants around the world.
Boost your bathroom recycling. It is easy to forget to recycle when there is no bin to hand. Put a second bin in the bathroom to make sure those loo rolls and shampoo bottles do not go to landfill.
Happy recycling!!!!
