LITERARY | VOLUME v

Hope in the Darkness

Tejan Kim Melendres

The goal of everyone’s life is like a dark, endless road, we gather light piece by piece, like students collecting wisdom to cross.

Once enough light is gathered, it becomes a lantern in our hands, and the darkness fades away as we near the end of our journey.

The endless road is a battlefield, with opportunity as the prize, and those ahead of me stumble and fall, at risk of losing everything they’ve gained.

But I have realized in this race, I am more than a runner; I am a doctor. I will pull people back from the brink, even if I have to move mountains to save them.

And as I walk this path, my hands become the light, reaching into the shadows to guide those who have lost their way.

  • My Parents

Rhona Abigail Benitez

Your love has been the light Through every trial and test You’ve made my world so warm and bright With you, my mind’s at rest

My Papa, who protects me like a lion My Papa, who has unspoken words yet to be told My Papa, who speaks his love with his actions My Papa, you explored the world I’m yet to unfold

To my Mama, you are my solace and comfort To you all the praise the world can give you You’re always there when I need your support And my heart overflows with all my love for you

Thank you for not giving up on me A dumb teenager doing dumb things You’re molding me to be the best version I can’t vividly see Making me stronger to face what the future brings

The Lowly Sculptor

Nigela Santina Villatuya Mia

When the voice that echoes in your mind Whispers you are not enough, And dread clings cold to your spine As life turns brute, cruel and rough Know that tis but a trial in its guise An emerging flame — that is your call For failure seeks the bold and wise The one who dares risk it all

Failure is no foe in war But a companion dressed in tattered grace It walks beside you, scar by scar A ghost that helps you find your place It wears the mask of wilted blooms Or appears as cracks where light won’t stream So don’t detest its complexion of gloom It is the lowly sculptor of your dream

The road to succeed is a long way more So don’t fret the bloody trail For the ship that was anchored on shore Triumphs its journey when it starts to sail.

The Shape of the Tears

Huh Jiyeon

The sky is painted with grey hues Thump, thump, only the sound of my heart lingers The ballot box stands on a cold judgement stand With countless hopes breathing quietly inside

Failure swallows me like a giant shadow Bearing the weight of cosmo, blocking my path As if falling into an endless abyss, The result shatters my heart into a million pieces

No shatters will not hurt you It rather shapes me and molds me No passion is meaningless It is a bittersweet experience No failure is priceless It costs more than million dollars No curve will lead me to wrong place It will lead me to where courage gathers No failure whispers like smoke in the dark It teaches to way to rise again

Beneath the grey-ish sky A single tears shines and promise to bloom tomorrow

My First Day at SISC

Jeheeelin Lee

It was the day—my first at a new school. Just like I hoped, the place looked cool. But I didn’t know the trends or rules, And I had no friends to guide me through school.

I felt so nervous, sure it would go wrong, But the mood was kind, and the day moved along. We had orientation; the class felt so long, As if my strength was all but gone.

Then recess came, my one big chance, But I just stood there, lost in a glance. Until a classmate held out her hand— A simple gesture I hadn’t planned.

That moment felt like the start of spring, Like I could laugh, and fly, and sing. It was a scary and nervous day, But something good came my way.

Now school feels bright and full of light, And I’ve found courage, step by step, right. I’m not the same as when I began— I’ve grown more confident than I ever planned.
