6TH HKL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IS LANDING IN THE UK

From India to Italy, then Cana- da, back to India, and onto Syd- ney, the torch is being passed to the UK for the 6th International HKL Conference.

Our HKL England volunteers are working diligently to make this conference a success, with 3,000 guests expected to attend. The day will feature a wide va- riety of entertainment, inspira- tional speakers, charitable orga- nizations, and faith groups.

The event will be held at the Telford International Centre on Saturday 11 April, with free entry, free food, and free en- tertainment for all attendees.

HKL England has been working with numerous UK organizations, including The Big Lunch, which will be partnering with us as well. The Big Lunch is a community initiative run by the Eden Project, aiming to reduce social isolation, boost commu-

The values of The Big Lunch closely align with those of HKL, and we are delighted to announce that Tracey Robbins, Head of Community Engage- ment at the Eden Project, will be joining us as one of our key- note speakers, alongside 50 am- bassadors.

On the day, HKL will also be working alongside many local charities and wellbeing initia- tives, which will host stalls to engage with attendees and sell their items. This conference is about more than spreading HKL across the UK; it is about creating a lasting impact in the Tel- ford community, helping people see that real change is possible and that embracing Humility, Kindness, and Love can truly transform an environment.

Outreach initiatives have al- ready been carried out in Telford and the surrounding counties to raise maximum awareness of the 6th HKL Conference. Vol- unteers have been attending establishments and faith groups, wellbeing events, visiting local and launching a student volun- teer campaign to encourage uni- versity students to participate on the day.

The mission is to involve as The conference will open with the traditional torch ceremo- ny, where former WBC Heavy- weight Champion Frank Bru- no will also be in attendance. Joining him from the boxing world will be Jo Egan, former sparring partner of Mike Tyson, who has expressed great en- thusiasm for HKL and shared many encouraging words with our HKL England volunteers as they prepare for the 6th Conference.

THE RIPPLE EFFECT OF KINDNESS

When someone experiences kindness, they are often inspired to pay it forward. A person who feels appreciated may offer en- couragement to someone else. A thoughtful gesture can bright- en someone's day and influence how they treat others.

In the same way, one act of kindness can begin to ripple throughout the community. What begins as a single interaction between a few can grow to im- pact many more.

Humility is key in this process. Oftentimes, the most meaning- ful acts are done quietly and without recognition or praise.

HKL reminds us to practice kindness, not necessarily be- cause we expect something in return, but because even the smallest action can make a great impact.

So the question becomes: what is one small way we can practice kindness today?

CLOSER THAN WE REALIZE

When we observe the world around us, it is easy to notice differences. People come from different cultures, speak different languag- es, and live very different lives. But science can remind us of something extraordinary: at the most basic level, everything around us is made up of the same building blocks.

People, plants, oceans and even the air we breathe are all made up of atoms. These at- oms form molecules, which come together in countless ways to create the world we see around us. In other words, the entire universe shares the same fundamental ingredients.

While we may seem separate on the surface, on a deeper level, we are all connected as part of the same system. This is a powerful per- spective which can change the way we see one another. When we understand that we are all made the same, it becomes easier to treat others with humility, kindness, and love. Be- cause when we recognize how closely we are connected, these values become natural.

HKL reminds us that beyond what we think sets us apart, we are closer than we realize.

On the eve before Eid, prepa- rations were in full swing at the spiritual center in Belleville known as Guru Nanak Darbar, some 78 kilometers from ISK. After finishing their daily cer- emonial duties, the supervisor of the center, with the help of his wife and two sons, started preparing the sweets. A prayer was made before commencing: a prayer of gratitude for the opportunity to be able to serve humanity and a prayer for those who would be having the food that they may be nourished both physically and spiritually and remain in ever high spirits.

  • ♦ Dates
  • ♦ Cashews
  • ♦ Pistachios
  • ♦ Almonds
  • ◆ Clarified Butter/Ghee

Optional: Cinnamon/Cardamom powder and other seeds and nuts

1. Mix the nuts together and use a chopper to reduce the size.

2. Pour a few spoons of ghee into a pan and allow it to simmer on the stove at low heat.

3. Add the nuts and stir until the mixture has a golden brown colour.

4. Remove the pits from the dates and blend them to form a smooth paste. Add some warm water if needed.

5. Mix the roasted nuts with the dates until a uniform mixture forms. Add ghee as required.

6. Apply ghee onto hands and assemble the mixture into balls of the desired size.

What was mesmerizing to see was the sweetness and simplic- ity of the supervisor and their family. Not a single moment of hesitation or reluctance could be sensed, but rather a response of "When do we start?" A second special moment occurred as vol- unteers were taking leave from ISK. Both the president and the Imam of ISK blessed the volun- teers and the HKL movement and showed their willingness to contribute in whatever way possible. The president's final words were "Rab Raakha" a special invocation of Divine protection words that sank deep into the heart of this volunteer.

HKL STUDENT-LED CLUBS SPREAD HUMILITY, KINDNESS, AND LOVE ACROSS BC CAMPUSES

Across British Columbia cam- puses, a quiet but powerful movement is growing led not by institutions, but by the students.

The HKL (Humility, Kindness, Love) student-run clubs are of- ficially growing at both Simon Fraser University (SFU) and the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), creating spaces centered around humility, kindness, love, and gratitude.

At SFU, the HKL club has al- ready been bringing these val- ues to life in meaningful and memorable ways. They've vis- ited care homes, where students and seniors came together for board games and craft sessions that turned into real bonding experiences. There was laugh- ter, storytelling, and moments that simply felt good. It wasn't about being perfect at crafts or winning games; it was about showing care, connecting with others, and sharing simple acts of kindness.

The HKL club also visited a halfway home, continuing this approach through honest inter- action and real connection. By engaging in conversation, lis- tening with intention, and sim- ply being present, they helped create an environment that felt welcoming and inclusive, where individuals could con- nect openly and comfortably.

One of the most engaging ini- tiatives introduced by the HKL club at SFU has been their inter- active campus tables, designed to encourage reflection and open conversation among students. Anyone who would be pass- ing by were invited to respond to thoughtful prompts such as, "What does HKL mean to you?" and "What are you grateful for?" While simple in nature, these questions sparked

grow, HKL is helping strength- en a sense of community across campuses one rooted in hu- mility, kindness, and love. Its momentum shows no signs of slowing down.

Students shared a wide range of reflections, from appreciation for family and friendships to gratitude for personal growth, resilience, and even small, everyday moments. Some re- sponses were thought-provok- ing, while others were simple but heartfelt. Each one contrib- uted to a growing sense of em- pathy and connection within the student community. The initia- tive transformed ordinary cam- pus spaces into places where students could pause, reflect, and engage with what truly mat- ters to them.

As the initiative continues to WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL

FOR At the University of the Fraser Valley, HKL has demonstrated a similarly positive presence. During a recent visit to a care home, students and seniors con- nected through shared activities and conversation, creating a warm and comfortable environ- ment for everyone involved.

What makes HKL stand out is its ability to create impact through simple, everyday ac- tions. Rather than relying on formal structures, the club fo- cuses on genuine human con- nection and small, intentional acts of care. In a fast-paced acanexus

THE IMPORTANCE OF HKL IN OUR LIFE

With SO much happening around the world, the future can feel uncertain, even bleak at times. It's hard to know what to hope for the next generation when we ourselves feel unsure about the present. In many ways, the way we think shapes the way we live. Our mindset doesn't just affect us internally; it influences our motions without realizing that feel this way? What can I do we're not truly happy.

actions, our relationships, and the world around us. When negative thinking takes over, it can cloud our perspective. We start to focus on flaws, problems, and fears, often los- ing sight of the simple beau- ty of life. Over time, we can become so caught up in our thoughts that we grow numb to ourselves, to others, and to the world. We go through the to feel better? As we reflect, we begin to notice patterns we once ignored.

Humility, kindness, and love (HKL) are not just ideas or words they show up in how we act every day. These qual- ities already exist within us, but they often get buried under stress, judgment, and constant overthinking. The world en- courages us to analyze, com- pare, and criticize everything, when in reality, life becomes more peaceful when we let go of that negativity.

Our minds are powerful. If we dwell on negativity, it triggers many more like it. But the same is true for positive think- ing. Where we place our atten- tion, our energy follows. If we constantly tell ourselves we are not good enough, our mind will reinforce that belief. But when we begin to shift, even slightly, toward more positive and com- passionate thinking, we start to see real change.

Although humility, kindness, and love may sound simple, they are not always easy to hold onto. Perhaps that's because we think of them as something we need to force, rather than some- thing that should come natural- ly. We rarely pause to reflect on our thoughts and actions, and before we know it, years pass by. Sometimes, we even con- vince ourselves that ignoring our problems will make them disappear. But real change be- gins within us. If we want to improve the world around us, we have to start with ourselves.

Letting go of negative thinking is the first step. When we stop criticizing ourselves, stop com- paring, and stop overanalyzing everything, we create space for clarity. Our minds become calmer, and we begin to experi- ence life more fully.

Our thoughts and actions are deeply connected. As our thinking changes, so do our behaviours. With a more pos- itive and grounded mindset, we begin to act differently: we communicate with more care, we work with more purpose, and we carry ourselves with more confidence. Slowly, those layers of negativity fall away, revealing our natural state.

This is the first step on the path of HKL.

We may have heard this many times before, but hearing something and living it are two very different things. We often say, "actions speak louder than words," yet we forget that these words come from real experi- practice they simply become

And in that natural state, hu- mility, kindness, and love are no longer something we try to part of who we are.

ence. Across cultures and be- liefs, humility, kindness, and love are consistently valued, yet only a few truly commit to practicing them daily.

Change doesn't happen all at once. It begins with small, in- tentional steps. When we turn our focus inward, we become more aware of our thoughts and actions. We start asking ourselves honest questions: Why did I say that? Why do I

JOURNEY TO TRUE SELF WEEKLY MEDITATION

CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA ly lives. Nearly all describe the same quiet realization:

Weekly Meditation with HKL Calgary

There are no prerequisites. No expectations. Just presence.

What if the peace you've been searching for is not somewhere out there but quietly waiting within you?

The stillness was always within them.

Since its launch, participants have described a deep sense of peace that stays with them long after they leave.

The name Homecoming is in- tentional. Because often, we are not lost, we are simply discon- nected.

"I didn't realize how heavy my week felt until I sat down and just breathed. By the end, I felt lighter."

Each Sunday evening, individu- als from all walks of life gather for Homecoming: Journey to True Self: a weekly meditation (Simran) experience rooted in breath awareness. The intention is simple:

In the spirit of Humility, Kind- ness, and Love, HKL Calgary welcomes everyone regardless of faith, age, or experience.

"It's the one place in my week where my mind truly slows down."

To return.

Every Sunday 7:00 PM 7:45 PM 8730 45 St NE, Calgary, AB

"There's no pressure here. You can just be."

The session begins by anchor- ing into the breath, slowing down, softening the mind, al- lowing the body to release the weight of the week. From there, Simran becomes the bridge in- ward gently quieting external noise and reconnecting us to our inner divine source.

If you've been feeling over- whelmed, restless, or simply cu- rious, around the area consider, this your invitation.

Many share that they walk in carrying stress, racing thoughts, or restlessness and walk out feeling grounded, calm, and internally settled. Some speak of sleeping better. Others no- tice more patience in their dai-

We often don't realize how much we can keep with us from a simple, 30-minute interaction. A genuine conversation has the power to ignite the heart, inspir- ing us to look deeper at what a peaceful life actually requires. This is exactly what happened during a recent Uber ride from the San Francisco airport. When I least expected it, I received a profound gift from a man named Faizan. THE 30-MINUTE RIDE THAT CHANGED HOW I SEE PEACE

FRESNO, CALIFORNIA, USA one could imagine nice cars, a beautiful house, a good job but his voice ached with a question I could feel weighing on him deeply: Why aren't we happy? He reminisced about the simple happiness he shared with his brother in Afghanistan where they did not have as much but life was simple and happiness existed.

Faizan had recently turned to driving for Uber after his previ- ous company downsized due to artificial intelligence technolo- gy, leaving 500 people without work. He had purchased his car just a month before the layoff. I could tell his spirit remained re- markably unshaken.

der to his circumstances. As we neared my destination, he offered one final insight: in a world where fear dominates the news, do not give in. "Invest in yourself," he urged. "Do not in- vest time in anything that brings you down. Uplift yourself, be- cause your energy affects the collective it affects everyone around you, especially your family."

When I reached my destination, His presence radiated a rare kind of strength, a total surren-

I realized that Faizan's words were exactly what I needed to hear. He reminded me that while we often chase peace through our circumstances on the outside, true peace is only found within us. I stepped out of the car feeling grateful for genuine heart-to-heart conver- sations, and thanking Faizan for sharing his life experience. As he drove away, my heart did a silent prayer for his well-being.

GLIMMERS OF HKL IN EVERYDAY LIFE

Being vulnerable is hard and building walls around us is easy. Though the world is trying to convince us otherwise we are all wired as one and wired for love. The reminders of HKL in my everyday life has become my "glimmers"

We have asked some of the vol- unteers of HKL to tell us their daily glimmers and how they are applying being humble, kind and loving throughout their day. Today we received:

Humility: I often catch myself interrupting when others are talking, or I've always had the habit of explaining myself to others. However, overtime, I've been able to just listen, and not feel the pressure to defend my-

self. Today I was on a phone call and didn't give them any explanation because it wasn't necessary. I listened to them and that was all.

Kindness: I get confused be- tween being kind and being nice to others. But sometimes that means to let things be and laugh with someone who's go- ing through a difficult time.

Love: I appreciated someone's service to me and wished for their well-being. Now I'm be- ginning to notice that maybe love can also mean being still within and not reacting.

How did you apply HKL in your life today?
