Rep. Aguilar Sits Down with Martin Daniel Rascon, U.S. Citizen Shot at by Masked Federal Immigration Agents in San Bernardino
SAN BERNARDINO, CA - Rep. Pete Agui- lar (CA-33) recently sat down with Martin Daniel Rascon, a U.S. citizen from San Ber- nardino, CA, who was shot at, targeted and ha- rassed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in San Bernardino in August 2025. Daniel, his father-in-law and brother-in- law feared for their lives as they dodged bul- lets while driving away. You can watch the full conversation between Rep. Aguilar and Mr. Rascon on westsidestorynewspaper.com.
Rep. Pete Aguilar: I wanted to talk to you a little bit about the experience that you had with agents here in town. You were the subject of a shooting by what has been determined to be

DHS agents in August here in San Bernardino. I want you to walk me through that day. What do you remember about that day? And what happened?
Daniel Rascon: I was running an errand with my father-in-law and his son, my brother-in- law, when some masked men with guns drawn started approaching the vehicle, two on each side of the vehicle. Right away, this didn't seem like the police department or a federal agency. It just seemed like random men geared up with things that they bought online.
Fear started running through my mind. What's going to happen? What do they want? What are they going to do? The only thing I could

CLE do myself was start recording. And so I did. As I started recording, they're asking us to low- er the windows. They're pulling on the door handles. My brother-in-law starts to record as well. So now both of us are recording because that's our only option.
The three of us were scared. You can feel it and you can see it, especially in the videos. That's when one of them decides to break the driver's window, and the other agent on the right side breaks the passenger window.

Medi-Cal Helps You Stay Healthy: Use Your Medi-Cal Benefits
Taking care of your health shouldn't wait un- til you're already sick. Medi-Cal gives Cali- fornia adults including Black families, se- niors, parents, and caregivers - access to free or low-cost care designed to help people stay healthy, not just treat illness. However, many Medi-Cal members are not using benefits they already qualify for, including dental checkups, vision exams, medications, and preventive screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer.
Medi-Cal is one of California's most depend- able health programs. And there's never been a better time to take advantage of these bene- fits. The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), which oversees Medi-Cal, confirms that most members will keep all of their benefits in 2025-26, including preventive care, dental and vision services, mental health support, and prescription coverage.
Medi-Cal provides health coverage to more than 14 million Californians, more than one- third of the state's population. Over the past decade, eligibility has expanded, strengthen- ing one of the nation's largest health safety nets.
Why Preventive Care Matters - Especially for Black Adults
Black Californians are more likely to live with chronic conditions such as high blood pres- sure, diabetes, asthma, kidney disease, or vi- sion loss, yet are less likely to schedule regular
