Three San Bernardino County Schools Earn National Recognition as AVID Demonstration Schools
AVID
SAN BERNARDINO, CA Three elementary schools in San Bernardino County have been named AVID National Demon- stration Schools by the AVID Cen- ter. The three sites were among 16 schools recognized nationwide. Congratulations to:
Curtis Elementary School, Rialto Unified School District
Levi H. Dickey Elemen- tary School, Chino Valley Unified School District
Elementary School, Ontario-Montclair School District
"We are incredibly proud that our county is home to three AVID Na- tional Demonstration Schools," said County Superintendent Ted Alejandre. "With three of our sites recognized among just 16 nation- wide, and only 10 in California, this distinction reflects the deep commitment our schools have to the AVID program and demon- strates the meaningful, positive impact this program continues to have for our students."
AVID (Advancement Via In- dividual Determination) Dem- onstration School campuses are model sites that exemplify high- quality, schoolwide implementa- tion of AVID Elementary systems and strategies. Each designated school has demonstrated con- sistent, intentional use of AVID practices that support college and career readiness for all students. Demonstration Schools meet rigorous eligibility and valida- tion criteria, including sustained implementation of the WICOR® strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Col- laboration, Organization, and Reading) across all grade levels and content areas. Instruction is purposeful and student-centered, with evidence of structured no- tetaking, academic language de- velopment, and student engage- ment in rigorous thinking.
A Demonstration School also shows strong alignment between leadership, staff, and systems. This includes ongoing profes- sional learning, collaborative planning structures, and school- wide commitment to equity and access. Teachers consistently use AVID instructional practices, and students demonstrate ownership of their learning through organi- zational tools, goal setting, and reflection.
Each of the newly recognized Demonstration Schools will host educators from across the region and nation, offering a firsthand look at what AVID success looks like when the practices are em- bedded into the culture, instruc- tion and expectations of the entire school community. Visitors will also be able to observe classrooms, engage with student ambassadors, AVID NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION SCHOOL and leave with practical skills to elevate their own programs. To hold their designation as an AVID Demonstration School, each recognized site must submit for revalidation every three years.
