5TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN SYNDEY, AUSTRALIA INSPIRED MANY PEOPLE TO JOIN THE HKL GLOBAL MOVEMENT

Heartfelt Highlights from the 5th International HKL Con- ference in Sydney

The 5th International Confer- ence of Humility, Kindness, and Love (HKL) convened in Syd- ney, Australia, on January 31, 2026. Held on Dharug land, the gathering brought together spir- itual leaders, Indigenous elders, local politicians, and well-wish- ers of humanity to celebrate a simple but powerful message: true beauty and true success be- gin within by reconnecting with the virtues of HKL. The spirit of HKL continues to resonate be- yond Australia as well, HKL is warmly welcomed in New Zea- land by the Māori community too, reflecting the shared values of respect, unity, and compas- sion that connect cultures across borders. Below is a summary of the key moments, teachings, and reflections shared during this transformative event.

The conference opened with deep respect for the traditions of the land. The ceremonial HKL torch, carried forward from the previous global conference in India, was received by Aunty Linda Millin Osborne. Voices of Wisdom and Service Speakers from around the world shared insights on living HKL values in daily life. Oya Erdo- gan from Berlin, Germany used the example of a recent massive power outage to illustrate spir- itual energy. Just as electricity is often taken for granted until it disappears, she noted, we of- ten overlook the "silent power station" of the soul. She en- couraged meditation, alignment with soul qualities, and service to others.

Local leaders, including Brad Bunting, Gurmesh Singh, and Warren Kirby highlighted Western Sydney's multicul- tural strength and unity. Ref- erencing the recent tragedy in Bondi, they noted how Austra- lians instinctively respond with kindness and heroism during difficult times, demonstrating that compassion is stronger than division. Youth representative and humor to the stage, teaching Mankirat Kaur brought warmth international guests Australian phrases such as “brekkie" and "no worries." She then offered a thoughtful definition of HKL for her generation: Humility is listening. Kindness is how we

SPREADING HKL AT RCMP EHQ SURREY, BC, CANADA

For the past five years, during the month of November, a buzz of happiness has filled the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's E Division Headquarters, nestled Happy Gurpurab in a quiet urban forest in Surrey. Over 2,700 specialist employ- ees of all ranks head toward the cafeteria to enjoy a coffee paid for by a handful of colleagues. In the cafeteria, conversations are abuzz with questions: "How amazing is this? How kind of them. How can I contribute to this initiative?” Smiles are ex- changed. Many are surprised to discover that there is no expec- tation in return for the free cof- fee, the box of ladoos in 2024, or even the samosas offered in past years. The occasion being celebrated is the Gurpurab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The employees simply wish to share their happiness and joy. This naturally brings forth

the question: how does giving love. something away for free, with- out recognition, bring happiness and joy to the handful of anony- mous employees?

Happiness is often linked to temporary pleasure or satisfac- tion that comes from outside of us and shifts as circumstances change. Joy, however, is an en- during internal state cultivated through being consciously fully present. The key ingredient is tent, unselfish actions that sup- port and uplift those around us.

Interestingly, love is one of the few things that doubles when shared. It surprises others and gently pulls the receiver away from the transactional cycle that the world has set as the norm. What began as an initiative by a single employee has quietly grown into an annual celebra- tion of love embraced by many.

Love is often misunderstood a transactional exchange, where reciprocity is expected. However, HKL reminds us that true love is a one-way offering, given freely without expect- ing anything in return. It is the foundation that nurtures both happiness and joy, arising from a deep sense of benevolent af- fection and care for others. True love manifests through consisas

For Prabhpreet Ghatrorhe, who accompanied several singers on the tabla, the night was less about performance than intention. "I felt blessed to accompany such talented artists," he said. "I wanted to leave every listener with a sense of love carried in the lyrics."

For HKL Manitoba, the event was both collaboration and statement. It offered students a chance to articulate their own beliefs while encountering others without defensiveness. Familiarity, organizers said, is often the first step toward un- derstanding.

"Events like this help peo- ple share their perspectives," Amroj Singh said. "They also allow us to become more fa- miliar with the diverse ways of thinking in this world."

In a campus climate shaped as much by daily interactions as by formal initiatives, that familiarity carries weight. Leadership, Prabhnoor Singh added, is less about visibility a willingness to listen. For some, the idea was rooted in faith. For others, it was shaped by culture or family history. The conversation did not aim to resolve those distinctions. It made room for them.

Prabhnoor Singh, president of the University of Manito- ba Students' Union, said what stood out was the way the event created a shared space across difference. Some artists performed in languages unfa- miliar to parts of the audience, he noted, yet the emotional force of the performances was unmistakable. Despite linguis- tic barriers, he said, the room felt connected through a cur- rent of mutual respect.

His favorite moment came at the close of the evening, when attendees gathered on the floor to listen to a final ghazal. “It felt intimate, grounding and deeply human," he said.

Akashdeep Singh of HKL Manitoba described the eve- ning as a natural expression of shared humanity. "It was a multicultural event. People from all faiths joined, and I experienced love naturally," he said. What struck him most, he added, was the absence of barriers. "Everybody came to- gether and felt we are all the same. He said the connec- tions formed that night could extend beyond campus. "More events like this can bring great success in spreading HKL.

On a frigid winter night at the University of Manitoba, stu- dents gathered for an evening of ghazals and qawwalis. By the time the final note faded, it was the conversation that lingered.

"Threads of Togetherness," co-organized by HKL Man- itoba and the University of Manitoba Punjabi Students Association, drew voices from across faiths and communities. The music carried themes of longing and love across lan- guages. But it was the Vichaar, a guided discussion that fol- lowed, that gave the evening its shape.

Participants were invited to reflect on a simple question about unity. The answers were anything but simple. One by one, students spoke from their own traditions and lived ex- periences. No one attempted to smooth over differences. Instead, they allowed them to stand, side by side.

Amroj Singh, former president of the Punjabi Students Asso- ciation and a co-organizer of the event, described that por- tion of the evening as its most meaningful moment.

"The most moving part was the discussion," he said. "Ev- eryone had space to speak. Hearing different perspectives expanded my understanding."

What emerged was not a sin- gle definition of unity, but

than responsibility. Culture is formed not only through events, but through everyday conduct grounded in service.

The music opened the eve- ning. The discussion deepened it. What remained was not uni- formity, but a room of students who had chosen, for a few hours, to listen to one another, with Humility, Kindness, and Love.

CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA A VISIT THAT BECAME A MIRROR TO EVERYBODY'S HEARTS

Generations Calgary is a se- niors' centre, a quiet residence where elders live surrounded by memories that stretch across lifetimes. On Valentine's Day, the HKL Calgary chapter vis- ited with a simple intention: to spread love. While love is something we strive to practice every day, this day gave us a reason to express it a little more intentionally; through flowers, conversation, and unhurried presence.

We arrived thinking we were coming to give.

What we did not realize was how much love we would re- ceive in return.

The seniors welcomed us with a gratitude that felt almost sacred. Their smiles were not casual; they were relieved. Their hands lingered in ours. It became clear very quickly that sometimes what people long for most is not grand gestures but to be remem- bered.

At first, she stood at a distance, watching. Gentle. Reserved. As we moved from room to room, she followed softly behind, as though gathering courage with each step. Eventually, she sat with a few HKL volunteers and formed a small circle around her chair.

And then she began to speak.

She told us she once had ev- erything a loving husband, suc- cessful children, a life full of movement and meaning. But when her husband passed away, something shifted. Though she was independent and capable, Then her voice trembled. she was placed in the seniors' home. She did not speak with resentment. She spoke with a quiet sorrow, the kind that settles slowly over time and becomes part of the air you breathe.

though she was reaching out- ward, trying to remain connect- ed to a world that no longer felt within reach.

Visits became less frequent. Calls became shorter. The si- lence grew longer.

As she spoke, she asked us questions; whether we knew her children, whether we rec- ognized certain names. It felt as She shared that every night she prays yet in her loneliness, she began to wonder whether God was really listening.

There was a stillness in the room.

And then, through tears, she said something none of us will ever forget.

After our visit, she said, she finally felt that yes, God was listening. That perhaps we were sent as an answer to her prayers. That the flowers, the time, the way we sat and truly listened, it reminded her she had not been forgotten.

In that moment, she was not just another resident in a senior centre.

Among them was one woman who quietly changed us.

She was a mother. A wife. A woman with a lifetime of love behind her.

When it was time to leave, she held onto our hands a little lon- ger. It was an acknowledgment. Not noise, but presence. Her story is not rare.

It echoes quietly through many rooms, in many cities, in many hearts.

SANDRA

Her story became a quiet invi- tation for reflection, a remind- er that presence, attention, and love are not only gifts we give to others, but also gateways to our own inner awareness.

What sacred power within me waits to be acknowledged? What divinity within me seeks the stillness of presence? What part of my being simply longs to be truly seen?

That day, HKL was not just spo- ken, HKL was lived.

Humility: in listening without interruption.

Kindness: in offering time with- out expectation.

Love: choosing presence and patience.

We may think we bring love to others, but in truth, love has al- ways been there, patiently wait- ing to be seen and felt.

HKL Reflection: When we lead with Humility, Kindness, and Love, we may become the quiet answer to someone's deepest prayer. We step gen- tly into a space where hope had almost faded. In doing so, we discover that we, too, are being answered. The love we thought we were giving is, in truth, healing something with- in us as well.

On January 24th, 2026, the sangat visited Tuapiro Marae and were warmly welcomed by the local iwi through a tra- ditional pōwhiri ceremony. In accordance with Māori cus- tom, the women entered first, with the men standing behind in protection. A gentle rain fell, enhancing the sacred atmo- sphere of the gathering. With shoes removed, the sangat en- tered the wharenui the main tribal meeting house, meaning "large house," also known as the whakairo (carved house) or whare tipuna (ancestral house). As the heart of the communi- ty, the wharenui was adorned with ancestral photographs and traditional artwork. Here, introductions were shared, and the Māori people spoke in their native language about their his- tory and heritage. In a beauti- ful gesture of honour, a Māori elder requested to perform a haka for Baba Ji and the sangat before receiving a ceremonial steel sword gifted by Baba Ji. Following the powerful haka, the sword was raised, and the sangat joyfully offered a Jai- kara (a shout of high spirit) in

appreciation and celebration. The gathering then continued in the dining hall, where Baba Ji lovingly served tea and snacks to everyone. This was followed by a captivating kapa haka performance of music and dance, celebrating the richness of Māori culture. Baba Ji also briefly addressed the audience about the HKL movement.

Later, Baba Ji gifted flowers to each Māori woman, and the sangat offered donations to sup- port the community following recent hardships affecting their land and homes. Baba Ji spent time in discussion with the iwi elders and community mem- bers, sharing ways to bring the HKL movement to every iwi. As silent prayers were offered, the rain gently stopped, and a vibrant seven-coloured rain- bow appeared in the sky leav- ing everyone present deeply grateful for the divine blessing and the precious unity shared in those moments.

Sanger West's club has been meeting regularly since Sep- tember, focusing on living HKL values daily. Members have committed through the HKL website, wear bracelets as re- minders, and follow weekly vir- tue challenges. Their next ini- tiative includes a hot chocolate giveaway paired with Thankful- ness HKL cards to spread posi- tivity among students and staff.

Clovis East launched the year by gaining club approval and signing up around 35 members during Club Rush. Meetings center on applying HKL in daily life, encouraging person- al growth and global aware- ness. Members have pledged their commitment and received bracelets as reminders, and the club has already participated in school events like the home- coming parade, with more ac- tivities planned ahead.

Together, these clubs continue to turn small acts into mean- ingful change, building kinder schools, one moment at a time.

HKL IS DISTRIBUTED WITH FLOWERS IN CALIFORNIA CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, FRESNO, USA

On February 13, 2026 at Cal- ifornia State University, Fres- no, the HKL club hosted an event where students gave away 240 flowers, each paired with a handwritten kindness card. The response from the campus community was in- credible and full of apprecia- tion. Everyone who received a flower and note expressed genuine gratitude, sharing that this small act of kindness had truly made their day.

One student expressed that “Receiving this flower and quote makes me feel very appreciated and loved by my community".

By the end of the event, we had completely run out of flowers, and many students were left hoping to receive one. About 50 students told us they had been waiting all day, which showed us just how meaning- ful and impactful such a sim- ple gesture can be.

WOODWARD PARK KINDNESS, FROM NOTE TO HEART USA

At Woodward Park, simple cards and sincere conver- sations spread the message of Humility, Kindness, and Love throughout the commu- nity. Families and friends who came to picnic and celebrate Labor Day unexpectedly be- came part of a deeper bond, a movement shaped by one card, one letter, and one heart at a time. Small words and paused moments allowed for genuine connections and smiles. The simple words served as a re- minder that all it takes is one action of kindness to make a lasting impact.

A beautiful soul expressed that "This is what the world needs. Humility, Kindness, and Love is who we truly are".
