Just two years ago, Stouffville's Riley Pootmans was busy winning the Intermediate class at this very same race. Flash forward two years and the rising star entered her first Superclass race and rode away with the win and then made it a double after winning 14 Girls Expert. Eliza Newton, Makilah Da- vis, Lilani Pringle, and Sophia 'Tongue Out' Tilley went to war through each lap of their cruiser racing. Each main event brought excitement to the class with Lilani Pringle grabbing the first and last win of the weekend, while Eliza Newton came up big with her first win since returning from her fight against aplastic anemia. Just because a class's rider count may be a little low, doesn't mean the ladies aren't going to get after a fierce battle. 12x Girls saw Sawyer Smith and Zahra Urena sep- arate themselves from the pack and show that they are the two to watch in Florida and beyond with Zahra Urena showing her growing speed and Sawyer Smith showing her growing skill, the 12x Girl class showed even in small numbers they can be a must watch race during the weekend.

Jackson Bettencourt, joined by Jaden Melcher and Connor Merca- do, tried to keep Kess honest, but with some added style through the pro set, the pressure only fueled Kess's fire, he took home all three Open wins and went on to claim two wins in 14x as well. They kept coming in the 11-12 Girls Cruiser class, where Penelope Malcolm, Jordan Niehenke, and Curran Shook spent the weekend fighting for position throughout the track. With a relatively wide-open first straight and a sweep- ing first turn, the 11-12 Girls Cruiser riders were able to open up the engine and show their speed all the way to the fence line.

Powerful starts and aggressive backsides through the straights earned him the first two wins outright, but Maddux Vicario was de- termined not to pack his bag for Worlds without a fight. Seeing a door open down the third straight in Sunday's main, Vicario went for the move, even knowing contact would be needed to make it. Ready for the bump and run, the two riders braced for impact, but a tire-on-tire hit sent the pair to the bot- tom of turn three, collecting two more racers on the way down. Four-count 'em, four - racers ended up at the bottom of the turn, with only four left pedaling, and it was La Habra, CA's, Noah Ratzlaff who stayed in the fight to secure the 16x win.

  • Page 96to upset the 250th celebration, with some hot laps of their own. Sadie Herrera held down the top spot in the ABA Futures Women class all weekend, but it wasn't without a hard charge from Riley Jordan and Lily Ashley. The three ladies continued to be some of the fastest on the circuit and carried that speed into their amateur racing in 15-16x Girls and 17-20x Girls. For the Men's side of the ABA fu- tures racing, it was Andrew Colling celebrating Canada Day a day late with a win. Battling with Andrew Herrera throughout the day Colling took his first win in the class and upset the field, hoping to set off fireworks for the Fourth. It came back to the States on Sunday, though, with Hudson Murphy taking a breakout win. Using the speed he's been cultivating in Florida, Murphy was able to get an elbow in front of the pack and hit his marks to take home his first ABA Futures victory, towing in RJ Crawford and Andrew Herrera onto the podium with him to cap off their weekend. From the development class to the veteran class, Vet Pro had a great show of speed, even with total point racing. Justin Riddell, with his new colors of J&R/Speedco/ Avian, took home a Day One win against the defending champ Jeff Upshaw and the local dominator Brandon Roharik. With a third on Day One, Roharik wasn't leaving the weekend without a top spot finish for the local squad, and Sunday was his day to get it done. Going into the final round of their total point racing, Roharik claimed the total points win and enjoyed his winner's interview with the local crowd cheering him on.

With electric racing throughout all three days from our amateur classes we wanted to specifical- ly highlight our favorite story of the weekend from the 10x class. Julius 'The Caesar' Nielsen from Stouffville, Ontario, proved himself as the next contender for the class's national rankings. Finding himself in the back of the pack, the Factory Daylight/ Hero ride, on his new duster frame, used the second straight to show his skill and catapult through the pack. With skill, speed, and patience, Nielsen showed his grit to wins, taking home a pair of win from the weekend, his first on the USA BMX Circuit.

The girls classes weren't the only ones that had some great racing, starting with 8 Expert, Bryce Groeber as he was untouchable all weekend he rode way out front in every moto I saw. Eleven Expert was equally good in a different way, each day ended with a different winner because the competition was so close, Friday Alessio Im- prota stole the win in the sec- ond turn with a killer move, Sat- urday Grayson Lander shut the door out of turn one and won, on Sunday Titus Williams was leading and took himself out in the last turn, Sebastian Rodri- guez took over the lead and won. Twelve Expert continued with the hot laps, Coye Weidner won all three days but had his hands full with riders trying to get past him. Barrett Macias was so close to Weidner all weekend but was the closest to passing him on Friday when he tried to swoop under Weidner in turn two, they collided and Macias went down. In 17-20 Expert Max Marshall laid down the fastest laps all weekend in any class and won both Saturday and Sunday.

  • SOUTH MARK BMXSOUTH PARK PRO/AM Through the hustle and bustle of the USA BMX National Series, we get a few rare chances a year to hit local communities as they put up money for dif- ferent events throughout BMX racing. Well, for the Fourth of July weekend, South Park BMX made the callout to racers both locally and nationally to race for some extra cash around South Park BMX. In conjunction with Richmond BMX's Flat Pedal Pro/Am, South Park began a new tradition kicking off with this inaugural race at the start of July. Preparing for the Stars and Stripes Nationals, racers took a stop at the legendary BMX track to face off with local domina- tors, Gavin Stazetski, Tommy Bruney and Nick Dawson. Both men's and women's classes raced around the new build in South Park, PA, and brought a show to the Wednesday night local. On the men's side of the racing, it was the local dominators hold- ing down the podium, but not without a battle from Max, Mar- shall and Andrew Herrera. While the Herrera family had a fifth on the men's side, the top spot on the women's side went to Sadie Herrera, topping the podium along with Elida Beeman and Riley Jordan battling hard for the last two steps. While the po- dium steps were extra fast, the whole rack of racers brought their best effort to the Fourth of July Pro/Am, with local racers getting their first taste of Pro/ Am racing and seeing where they stand with some of the country's fastest. We can't thank Nick Dawson in the local crew out at South

The Pro ranks saw some familiar faces make a statement after their trip to the World Championships. Molly Simpson returned from Worlds and picked up right where she left off, topping the Women Pro field on both days of racing. She was joined on the Saturday podium by Daleny Vaughn and Lauren Reynolds, both of whom also carried their World Champi- onship form straight into strong finishes here. Sunday brought Molly Simpson back to the top spot but also brought Ava Cor- ley onto the box.
