Publishe ublisher's WELCOME to the 20th edition of our guide, marking over 25 years of connecting culture makers and culture seekers across BC's Creative Communities.
In a world that is rapidly changing and often challenging, art and culture remain essential-not luxuries, but lifelines. As artist Grayson Perry has said, "art is not a luxury. It is a necessity that helps us make sense of the world." Through creativity, we process, reflect, and find meaning, For over two decades, BC's Guide to Arts and Culture and Art-BC.com have championed the artists, organizations, and communities that define British Columbia's vibrant creative landscape.
Through both our printed guide and our online guide Art-BC.com, we continue to share these voices with an audience of the culturally curious. Ensuring that these stories and creative expressions are seen, supported, and discovered is work we deeply believe in.
This edition reflects the perseverance of the cultural sector and the quiet but powerful role it plays in shaping lives of meaning and connection. Through every festival, exhibition, performance, and gathering, there is an invitation to slow down, to notice, and to engage deeply. In a time where our attention is often divided, choosing where we give it becomes an act of value. To give your attention to the arts is to participate in something deeper: to listen, to reflect, and to enter into a relationship with the ideas, stories, and expressions that shape our communities.
As you explore with the 20th edition in your back pocket and Art-BC.com as your online companion, I hope you'll discover moments that truly hold your attention- moments of inspiration, restoration, and lasting memories that stay with you long after the journey ends.

GRANVILLE ISLAND ranville Island is uniquely situated beneath the Granville sprawl. Located on the traditional, unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, this shoreline was once part of a living ecosystem of abundance and cultural significance. By the early 20th century, the landscape had been reshaped into an industrial hub of mills and rail yards. Today, echoes of this layered past remain embedded, reshaped into a thriving arts district where creativity, cultural presence, histories and story continue to converge.

'he Pacific Northwest is home to 204 distinct First immemorial. Across the region now known as British Columbia, Indigenous arts and cultures are deeply rooted in the land.
Indigenous artistry lies at the intersection of meaning, memory, and relationship, shaped by deep connections to land, water, and community, and expressed through both ancestral knowledge and contemporary experience. It spans a wide range of forms from traditions in wood and stone carving, glass and metalwork, to painting, beadwork, and fibre arts, these practices continue alongside contemporary work in photography, film, digital media, installation, and interdisciplinary forms reflecting diverse and evolving expressions of identity. Cultural expression through song, storytelling, theatre, and dance reflects this diversity and continues to be revitalized and shared across communities.
Across the province, there are many ways to engage with Indigenous arts and cultures. Indigenous-led galleries, cultural centres, and museums offer opportunities to learn directly from communities, while artists continue to create and collaborate in ways that honour both tradition and innovation. Visitors may also take part in immersive, land-based experiences, including festivals, performances, carving demonstrations, and culinary gatherings. Indigenous tourism experiences, guided by local hosts, offer opportunities to learn about specific territories, histories, and relationships to land and water in ways that are grounded in respect and reciprocity.
Wherever you are in British Columbia, you are on the traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples. Engaging with Indigenous arts and cultures is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of place and to listen to the stories that continue to shape it.
