One night in Xochimilco, a boy named jesus went to sleep feeling tired after spending the afternoon with his friends near the canals. Everything seemed normal until he suddenly woke up in the middle of the night.
His room was dark and silent. Jesus felt a heavy weight on his chest, as if someone was sitting on him. He tried to move his arms and legs, but they would not respond. He wanted to call for his parents, but no words came out of his mouth. His heart beat faster and faster.
As he looked around, he felt that someone was standing beside his bed. He could not see anyone, yet he was sure he was not alone. The feeling lasted only a few seconds, but to jesus it felt much longer.
Then, as quickly as it had started, the weight disappeared. Jesus could move again. He turned on the light and checked every corner of his room, but nobody was there. The next morning, he told his grandmother what had happened.
She listened carefully and said that long ago people believed a dead man s spirit sometimes visited sleeping people. Some thought it was a ghost, while others believed it was only a strange dream. Years later, jesus still remembered that terrifying night. Even today, people in Xochimilco share the story and wonder: was it only a dream, or was there really someone in the room?
