The canals of the lake looked a little too calm to be June 24. It wasn’t any day, except it was the day! The day many old wives had talked about for a very long time.
The town was peaceful, so silent you could hear crickets all around Xochimilco. But you could also hear a group of big and scary“rebel”kids trying to scare younger ones.
“And the bull will come at night and...”one said. “Stop, just stop!”said Lucia. “He will take you all and drown you in the lake, hahaha!” The younger kids ran away crying while everyone else laughed.
All kids went to bed feeling quite agitated that night I can tell you because I was one of those kids, and let me tell you all it wasn’t nice."
Something at night suddenly woke me up. I felt cold chills and a strange feeling I couldn’t explain. Quietly, I left my house and went to the lake.
I waited for a while and started thinking the older kids had gotten into my head. Then, out of nowhere, a loud roar made me turn around. The water shook and a dark shape rose from the lagoon.
The bull of the lagoon was there.
I ran home as fast as I could. To this day, nobody believes me, but deep down I know it was real.
