More than 35 years ago, my younger son was born at Jackson Memorial Hospital, weighing just over a pound-given only a whisper of a chance to survive. At any other facility, he would have been lost, but thanks to the doctors, nurses, and other caregivers at our public hospital, he has grown into a happy, healthy, and successful young man.

We have also been upgrading our facilities in our hospitals, including a new trauma center at Jackson South Medical Center, new procedure suites at Jackson North Medical Center; and a new surgical cancer unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital. With the support of our community, our elected officials, and our generous donors, we broke ground on the new José Milton Memorial Hospital at our future Jackson West Medical Center campus in Doral, and prepared to begin construction of the new Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center for The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at UHealth/Jackson Memorial.

At any other hospital, they would call it a miracle. At Jackson, we call it a Monday.

Stories like these take place at our hospitals every day, and they are the inspiration for our slogan: Miracles made daily. From Ryder Trauma Center, which trains every one of the U.S. Army's forward surgical teams and treats our most seriously injured neighbors, to Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital, where patients work toward a second chance at independent lives, Jackson Health System makes miracles.

In the years to come, Jackson is preparing for its biggest changes yet. We're expanding our services in the areas where you count on us for the best: cardiology, organ transplantation, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, maternity, and pediatrics, especially for those high-risk children who need our unmatched care in neonatology, pediatric cardiology, and other highly specialized children's services.

Our entire team is deeply committed to carrying that work forward. The industry we represent and the community we serve will change substantially in the years ahead. Jackson must be strong enough, nimble enough, and smart enough to change with them, while still pushing ourselves to deliver the world's best medical care.

In 2018, Jackson will celebrate its 100th anniversary, so today we are building the framework for a second century of making miracles.

Sincerely, Last year, we launched a new chapter in Jackson's history with the opening of our first urgent care center, UHealth Jackson Urgent Care-Country Walk. It is the first in a new network of walk-in centers that combine the convenience of on-demand care with the quality you expect from Jackson and the University of Miami Health System. Our urgent care services are now available in Keystone Point and Cutler Bay and will soon expand to Miami Gardens and Doral in carly 2018.

The Miami City Commission votes to rename Miami City Hospital in honor of Dr. James M. Jackson, a surgeon and prominent leader in the medical community.

Building On A Promise

One of the cornerstones of Jackson's storied history is its longstanding commitment to serving the people of Miami-Dade County. The Jackson West Medical Center campus will provide comprehensive and integrated services to meet the health and wellness needs of everyone in the community. This state-of-the-art facility will include a free-standing emergency department and a wide range of diagnostic, treatment, and ambulatory care services for both adults and children.

Jackson West, located just west of the Palmetto Expressway and on the north side of Northwest 25th Street, will be custom-tailored to meet the unique communities growing in Doral, Miami Springs, Sweetwater, West Miami, and Virginia Gardens - just as our other facilities meet the needs of the communities they serve. We look forward to working with our new neighbors and making Jackson West their healthcare provider of choice.
